Research from Max Planck Institute Showed the two whip like flagella that C.reinhardtii has can swim averagely up to 115 um/s. Thats about 12 body length/ second, 8 times faster than Michael Phelps!
Tunable Guidance
Hypoxia Tropism : Although it is not well defined, microalgae has been observed to have a phenomenon that they tend to migrate toward and proliferate preferentially within the low oxygen level.
Phototaxis : Other than hypoxia tropism, microalgae can also be guided into targeted location using light guidance. NIR (Near Infrared) has been proven to be able to penetrate tissue and guide microalgae.
